Flashback Friday – kids in motion

This image is from 2011 and was taken along the Elbow River.  Kezia was 2 1/2 years old and running with Kian who was 4 1/2.  I used a shutter speed of 1/6th of a second for a relatively long shutter and panned with the kids as they raced by.  I love playing with motion and creating, or capturing, movement in these types of images.  The blurred lines that layer to create the scene remind me of an Impressionist painting.

I found this Red fox sprinting away from a farm west of Springbank, Alberta.  A dog was just giving up the chase when I caught sight of the fox running at full speed in the ditch.  By the time it passed me it was out of pursuit and was cantering along.

Summer in Osoyoos

Running through the vineyard - 2014 © Christopher Martin

We are enjoying some family time at the Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort in Osoyoos, British Columbia. The trail down to the water is through the Nk’Mip Winery and their vineyards. When we went down last night for a swim in the lake, it was great to watch the kids running down the pathway.

Inle Lake: Jumping up a step

A girl runs toward a friend along a stilt bridge on the edge of Inle Lake in Myanmar.  The bridge extends a couple of hundred metres into the lake to allow boats to dock year round regardless of high water during the rainy season or the opposite extreme in the summer.  There was a community of a dozen or more stilt houses and floating gardens at the lake end of the bridge so it no doubt serves as the primary link for these children to their school and friends.

These two girls were laughing while running back and forth across the bridge.   I was there for the sunset but it was fun to have the youthful energy spilling all over.  I like the blue hues in this image contrasted primarily by the clothing of the girl who is jumping up the step.
