A cloud bank at dawn in Punta Cana

It was quite a while ago when we went to the Dominican Republic for a week of sun and sand. I went out photographing most mornings. As the day brightened ahead of the sunrise, this cloud took shape out of the night, slowly brightening from its head down towards the horizon. A 15 second exposure and a wide aperture helped to create a dreamy feel to this seascape.

Painterly is a useful expression here…sort of reminds me of an Alex Colville painting in the aura of expectancy created (not by the subject matter obviously)…the scene gives off the feeling of something in the middle of change, something else is going to happen…I really like the ‘ombre’ effect of one thing sliding into another state…it’s a fabulous shot.

    • Thank you so much. It’s subtle but something really appeals to me. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

    • Thank you Jane! With the latest throwback to winter here, I’ve been dreaming of the sun and sand a lot.
