Running with the Kolea
I photographed a pair of Pacific Golden Plover, called Kolea in Hawaiian, in the grasses near our hotel this morning. They scuttled about the grass in the same fashion as I had observed them skip over rocks along the shoreline last year on a beach further north here in Kaua’i. In the photograph above, I panned the camera while one of the birds ran nearby.

Intriguing effect with just enough of the bird detail to make it all look good somehow.

Captured well, don’t know why because I “thought” you had to have the head focused but it works for me and the grass is so brilliant!

Everyone makes the head in focus – I’m striking out in a new, bold direction ;). At 1/8th of a second, I’ll take decent sharpness on the head and back. The gestalt is greater than the sum of the parts.
