Western Photo Gallery at the Calgary Stampede
The Western Showcase is an art show held annually during the Calgary Stampede. The showcase is held in two of the halls in the BMO Centre and has artwork from a wide range of mediums on display. The paintings and sculptures often hold me mesmerized for hours at a time when I’m down there.
The Western Photo Gallery is part of the Showcase and this is my third year participating. This year I have five images on display and available for sale. The images selected by the jury are the photographs in this post)
The Western Photo Gallery is a great venue to get your name out and to have the opportunity to sell prints to a large audience. I’m always excited to be involved. If you have a chance to visit, there are a lot of great western themed images.
One image that had particularly strong feedback last year (and also sold well) was of harnesses and other tack used in the Calgary Stampede. For three years I was covering the Stampede Rodeo for a magazine and had press access. During the 2011 Stampede, on one of my walks behind the chutes, I noticed this gear hanging off of one of the posts. It is a symbol of the Stampede that seems to work for people.

Prints on sale at the K-Country Christmas Art & Craft Show
Thanks to my wife’s persistence and my father’s carpentry skills, we have a collection of framed prints and canvas images on display at a booth in the annual Kananaskis Country Art & Craft Show in Redwood Meadows this weekend. We have images of local wildlife and landscapes ranging from 8×10 up to 24×36 with prices ranging from $85 to $395. If you are in the area, please drop by to say hello. We are in the Redwood Meadows House beside the Fire Hall. Our booth is in the main hall beside the hot food counter.
The images in this slideshow are some of the prints and canvases available for sale at the show that runs 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
For anyone not able to attend, just a reminder that I sell prints and canvases directly as well. With the holiday season upon us, I have reduced the print prices for images purchased from me by roughly 20% in anticipation of some volume discounts that should lower my print costs. If you’re in Bragg Creek…
Our little town of Bragg Creek is a very nice drive out from Calgary towards K-Country. This time of the year all of the shops are full of interesting artwork and craft pieces that represent work by artists local, nearby and far away.
This year, for the first time, some of my prints are available for purchase at one of the shops in the Bragg Creek Shopping Centre – the main public area in town marked by the Husky gas station on one end and the Family Foods grocery store on the other. Almost directly in the middle is Things to Bragg About – an eclectic store with a diverse range of crafts, art, clothing, and curios.
I have framed 8×10 inch and 16×20 inch prints showing landscapes and wildlife from Bragg Creek and Kananaskis on display. I will be adding some of my Asian prints as well as some canvas artwork through the holiday season and into next year. It seems like a good time to mention that I can print custom orders for any of the photographs that appear on this blog or on my photography website.
