Sunrise over Third Vermilion Lake in the Bow Valley of Banff National Park

I love exploring parks anywhere I go in the world.  That love probably started with my parents hauling me around Banff National Park from age zero and on.  The Banff area, extending from Canmore to Lake Louise, has to be at the top of my list of favourite places.  Within this large area, I am often pulled towards the Vermilion Lakes just outside of the town of Banff.  Even if it is just for a short drive, this place is inspiring beauty no matter the season, the weather or the time of day.

Sunrise over Sulphur Mountain reflected in Third Vermilion Lake in Banff

I was out at the lake on Monday morning before the sky began to lighten and enjoyed watching the drama build in the sky and reflect in the water kept free of ice due to the hot spring that seeps in nearby.  This photo was taken at the climax of the morning light show.  The simple beauty of clouds, mountains and water combined to create something wonderful.
