I photographed birds at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary this afternoon. With the sun out and the temperature rising close to zero, it was a beautiful day to wander along the Bow River. I walked back as the setting sun painted the clouds. The colors stopped me in my tracks. It was a stunning way to let go of the day.

I’ve never seen the sky color shown in your first photo. Given that different cameras, different monitors, and so on can lead to color that’s just a little different from the ‘real thing,’ I’m curious. Was that pure red what you actually saw? Perhaps it’s more common at higher latitudes.

Good question. Yes – that’s how it looked. In winter with the low sun combined with the haze in the evening sky made this a very colorful sunset.
