Dalemead dawn
West of the hamlet, Desirée and I watched the sunrise over the frozen prairie. Despite the slightly wicked cold, the beauty of the snowy fields, black tree silhouettes and the deep hues in the sky was overwhelming. The lens was in my trunk so when I put it on, it frosted up. That was partially by design and partially due to a lack of planning earlier in the morning. I loved the haze around the frame that resulted and had a lot of fun shooting with that for a bit.
Ah, the prairie dawn! Exquisite, tantalizing and reliable. My happy place is sunrise on ice fog along the river in Battleford, Saskatchewan. Thanks for a gorgeous burst of prairie dawn. 🙂

Masterful use of lighting, vignetting and composition, drawing the eyes to the silhouette of that bare, lonely tree stubbornly holding out in the cold landscape..

This is a stunning photo. I’m hoping those are railroad tracks cutting through the landscape; the glimmer suggests they might be. Whether they are or aren’t, as soon as I saw the photo I thought of another Canadian, whose song suits your photo perfectly.

Thank you so much! A great song to be sure – Gordon is an icon and the soul in that one is palpible. You are correct, the two leading lines are railroad tracks. Happy New Year!
