Signs of spring – mountain bluebirds

A pair of mountain bluebirds were flitting around a bird house west of Calgary a few days ago.  They caught my eye when I was driving past the farmland on the way to my daughter’s dance studio.  I stopped for a few minutes, watching as they appeared to be moving into their summer home.

  1. I’ve always loved how vivid mountain bluebirds are – we typically get western bluebirds out where I’m at.

  4. I’m planning on doing a special post on Pink and Blue and want to ask you for permission to use the first photo as one of the ‘blue’ photos in my post. I would credit properly with your name and provide links back to this post and to your blog home. Would this be ok with you?

  6. I’ve never considered the possibility that there were more species of bluebirds than the one I see here in Texas: silly me! Your mountain bluebird is so lovely. It seems not to have the chestnut markings of our Eastern bluebird. Its color makes it seems even more delicate, like porcelain. The light, neutral background shows them off to perfection.

    • Hi! You’re right the mountain bluebird males do not have the chestnut markings. Both are wonderful creatures!

  13. The blue of the Mountain Blue Bird is so vibrant. In your first photograph I love how everything is so subtle except the bird and the wire of the fence. All beautiful images, thank you for sharing.
